Baltimore City College is the Country's third oldest high school. It was first opened in 1839 as an all male school. The home of the Knights is the "Castle on the Hill"; it was first opened in the spring of April 1928. It became a historic landmark after being opened for 75 years. The "Castle" has gone through a couple of renovations, as recently as the 2005/2006 school year. By the end of the 2006 school year "City" had new electrical wiring installed as well as new wiring for Internet access. All classrooms now have the capability to have 5 computers in their room hooked up to the Internet.

At Baltimore City College students are able to take many different classes, and classes of varying difficulty. Students can gain college credit by taking AP classes, or by taking classes in "City's" IB program. In the IB program students can elect to take a full load of IB classes and graduate with an IB diploma. Students who still want the IB experience, but aren't quite ready for the full IB load can take individual IB courses, and receive a certificate for that course. Starting in the 2007/2008 school year "City" will begin the IB middle year program. Incoming freshmen will be the first IB middle year class at City College. The middle years program is designed to help students see the connections that exist across different subject areas. In this way students are better able to understand just how interconnected their classes, and the world is.

At Baltimore City College students do not only strive to be the best academically, but also challenge themselves with extra-curricular activities. "City's" debate team has won numerous competitions and awards, and continues to be among the best in the city. The same can be said for the mock trial team, it continues to crush its rivals in the city and wins numerous competitions. The Knights also compete to be the best in the athletic realm. The football team was undefeated in the regular season including a blowout of Poly in their annual game at M&T stadium. The boys and girls basketball teams had very good seasons, and can look forward to years of the same, with a lot of young talent.
